The following is my second blog that I created geared toward the creative projects I will be doing over time and my take on the process of creating. I'll be commenting on other blog posts with a smiliar focus as well.
WHY PHOTOGRAPHY NOW
As an Indie filmmaker, I have decided to extend my creativity this year into next year toward the direction of photography. And why photography; well I want to keep myself in that artistic mode while I write my screenplays and books. I could also see myself bringing in another household income from my work as well.
THE BIG APPLE - MANHATTAN
The city of New York is made up of five boroughs where artists are spread. You have the main hub that is the commercial landscape: Manhattan. Then you have the other four: Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and The Bronx.
STARTING MY FILM PRODUCTION
I am about to direct my second short film in the past 2 years. My first one is entitled, “First Day Fears,” and it is currently on YouTube. The visual was good, the transitions were good, but the sound was not as good. Hopefully this next one work better than the first. But that’s not the topic of interest. The interest is that I am ready to incorporate myself as an Indie Production. Why? Well, so I can reach out for financing in my feature films, theatre plays, and even more entertainment production work without stating that Faheem Jackson needs the funding..
MY SCREENWRITING JOURNEY
This was the year that I started writing my very first screenplay, “Wood Road Revenge,” which later became, “Retribution.” A thriller about a young female whose boyfriend was killed while they were in high school and someone is reminding her of the occurrence now that she’s in college. And when you’re 22 or 23 years of age you think that it’s the greatest idea ever written. And believe it or not, I really thought that I could procure an agent off that piece of crap. And why was it garbage.
KEEPING UP WITH THE DASHIANNERS
WHO ARE THEY
The photo above are of the Kardashian-Jenner Sisters. They are an entertainment family that rose to prominence back in the year 2007 with their reality television show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Since then, they have gone to build their family’s fortune to nearly $1 billion dollars. But this article is not who they are, but aims at something more than just the who. This article aims at the why; why are they so appealing.
LIFE ABROAD IN AMERICA
BORN AND BREAD
I am a native of the city of Racine, Wisconsin where I lived for the first 18 years of my life. After high school, I did a semester in South Carolina before coming back to school in the neighboring city of Kenosha, Wisconsin to study in college. Once graduation was over, I decided to move to New York City for graduate school. The school I attended was New York Institute of Technology where I received my MBA in the year 2014. It was around the year 2013/2014 when I told myself I would dedicate 10 years to breaking into screenwriting/filmmaking, writing novels, then it became photography and podcasting as of recently added to the list. What does this have to do with living abroad in America, a lot.
SAY CHEESE: HOW I’M STEPPING INTO PHOTOGRAPHY
Over the past year, I have been pushing my short film I was looking to shoot. I recently shot my short film, and currently I am in the post-production phase. Throughout all this time, I realized that pursuing a film career is a hustle that takes years. So what could I do to keep me in that artistic mode. And that’s when the interest of photography came up. Not only did the idea of photography peak my interest, but I have also created some interesting concept ideas. Ideas that I feel could aid someone in their portfolio growth. And that’s when it dawned on me: freelancing.
Over the next few years, I will be embarking on my theatre play and film career. I have already put together an idea for my first feature film I want to shoot. But what about my first theatre play? But before I jump into making the play, I have to ask myself a few questions.
THE NATURE OF A GREAT IDEA
How the brain works has been been studied over time and continues to be studied. We get a thought that pops into our minds and then say to ourselves, “Hmm, I wonder where that came from; oh well.” Now, what I just stated is a very ambiguous statement to make. But for me and how I think, I might get a thought into my mind about a certain person, then question where it came from, and why I felt like that in the first place. Only if most people thought that way, we could cut down on a lot of problems. But the topic of today is not how the brain works as it pertains to social issues, but creativity. What creates a great idea in the brain?
Today is a rainy day and for some reason on these particular days when I am working it is hard to stay motivated. You know, it’s funny how when the weather changes, your mood changes. Just makes you think about our own human evolution and how the weather patterns play a role in our daily adjustments. Because when the weather is good, I’m feeling good. But soon as the storm comes down, I feel awful. Well, how does one stay motivated on days where motivation seems so grim?
Ihave been blogging since August of 2015 on a variety of topics ranging from politics and sports, to business and education. And for me I have been doing so to enhance my writing as it pertains to my screenplays, books, and my future playwrights. Since starting in 2015, I have written over 500 posts that I can legitimately say have made my writing exponentially better. From my structure to my take a variety of topics. Now, my Medium blog post is new and geared toward creativity, freelancing, and entrepreneurship. So I am extending my hand to anyone that would like to partner up and write for me and I write for them. Because selling my plays, scripts, or even a book is a grind that takes years. So I need something in between time to aid me in keeping my mind fresh. But does my freelancing in writing stop at just blogging? No, I am willing to extend my hand elsewhere.
THE ART OF THE PITCH
The art of the pitch is something that we all have to do at some point in our lives. And that’s because we have to find employment. We are made to believe that pitching an idea is just for entrepreneurs trying to find financing for their business, or even what I am interested in, screenwriting. And knowing that I am going to try to pitch myself for selling my scripts, I have already thought about how my pitch will go. But what is it you must do to make yourself be heard. Because it doesn’t matter how great the idea you’re pitching, if you don’t come across as knowledgeable, then you can forget it. And for me, I am an introvert, but how does one like myself sell when they are so introverted. Well, here is the art process of trying to sell as it pertains to my writing process I am following.
DIGITAL HEADSET DISTRIBUTION
THE FUTURE OF ENTERTAINMENT
As technology progressed in our society, so has the landscape of American entertainment. I am only 30 years of age, and just in my lifetime I have witnessed so much shift. Growing up for my sisters and I we indulged in MTV videos, which has now gone off air. Everything that is a music video is now content on the internet. All the television channels that used to for viewing music videos are now showing regular television programming: reality shows, sitcoms, and award ceremonies. But another form of viewing entertainment has taken hold, and that is sitcoms on the internet. Due to the popularity of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Vimeo, and YouTube; more content is readily available on the internet. So with all that has been said, what is the state of the entertainment business moving forward.
USING YOUR TWO SPHERES
The brain is a very powerful tool if you use it the right way. It can be used to build infrastructure or tear down a civilization. The mind can be used to bring people together, or it can be used to create great turmoil on the land. But however we use the mind, all of us are a little bit of either the right side of the brain or the left side of the brain.
CREATIVE CROSS TO BARE
THE MIND OF THE ARTIST
The mind of an artist is not the typical mind of anyone else. You tend to see the world from a different point of view. Things around you speak to you in a different way, another language. And I don’t mean in a foreign language of some far away land. I mean the mind of an artist, even the greats, is a mind that does not see the world on the surface. We see the many layers of the world, and can translate that into something amazing. Whether it be on a canvas, in lyrics, or on screen.
SOCIAL MEDIA MADNESS: HOW SOCIAL MEDIA HAS BECOME THE NEW HYSTERIA
The personal computer was first designed as this educational tool for people in society. And since the advent of the internet, it has become this machine that got away from everyone. But once social media started to take hold, everything has began to go haywire. And why is that? Well, the main reason is because everyone in society today is allowed.........
INTO OUR MINDS
WHO ARE WE
Artists, no matter what your craft, we all share this similar frame of thought when trying to accomplish a task. What the hell am I doing and why am I pursuing this as a career. Because anyone else in their right mind would have given up a long a time ago. But it never stops us from going forward.
YOUR BRAIN UPLOADED
My mind, your mind, anyone’s mind is a very vast universe that we as humans have not fully been able to understand. You’re sitting at home and an idea pops into your head. You think to yourself, “Where the hell did that come from, and who put it there?” Was there some form of divine intervention, or is there something so sporadic going on in our heads that we can’t and will never fully understand the reason why we get such great ideas. This has been since the beginning of time, this ability to as the saying goes, “Putting two and two together. From creating fire, to developing a new cryptocurrency that is outside the realm of any currency regulated system on earth.
INTO THE MIND
What happens when the creative mind starts to wonder while trying to be creative. This happens to me often where my mind starts to move about without even trying to make it move about. Meaning, I want to write a blog post, and get caught up in the topic so much I start to build these scenarios in my mind pertaining to the topic. Then before you know it, I have wasted 30 minutes on daydreaming. And realizing that I have wrote nothing.
